In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP candidate from the Fatehpur Lok Sabha constituency, Sadhavi Niranjan Jyoti, had secured a lead of 8152 votes over his nearest BSP rival Afzal Siddiqui in the Husainganj assembly segment. Samajwadi party has nominated Muhammad Shafir to contest the Husainganj Assembly seat in 2017 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.
